When their regular preacher leaves–under either favorable or unfavorable circumstances–a congregation suffers stress and uncertainty. The elders face these questions:
- What happens now?
- How do we find another preacher?
- Who will preach and do the minister’s regular work in the meantime?
To help during this period of both challenge and opportunity, the elders may decide to secure an interim minister, a role for which John Parker has specific training and 19 years of experience. John will
- Preach each Sunday
- Provide the elders pressure-free time to evaluate their situation, offering them counsel when needed
- Allow the church to proceed deliberately to find, select, and place the next regular minister and his wife and children, a process which–when done properly–usually requires six months or more
